David A. L. Johnson, MD

David recently finished a shoulder and upper extremity fellowship in San Francisco where he focused exclusively on surgery of the shoulder, elbow and hand. Unique to his exposure was an extensive experience in reconstructive surgery of the upper extremity, especially total shoulder arthroplasty. He worked significantly with the newly developed reverse total shoulder for irreparable rotator cuffs. His fellowship director was a design consultant for shoulder replacements and has invited David to participate in this process as well.

Though he has subspecialty training in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery Dr. Johnson welcomes seeing orthopaedic problems involving the lower extremity as well. His residency at the University of CT offered a wide exposure to all aspects of sports medicine, joint replacement, and fracture surgery in all age groups. A father of three, he particularly enjoys seeing children.

Dr. Johnson was recently appointed as faculty member of the University of CT medical school in the department of orthopaedics. While he does the majority of his surgery at both Rockville and Manchester Hospital, he has privileges at Hartford Hospital and UConn Health Center.

He and his wife Liz have three boys: George, Ben and Thomas. They are all outdoor enthusiasts. As a family they enjoy hiking, biking and swimming. On rare moments alone, David likes to run.
